Its been a little bit, the blog broke… sorry

So since I last posted… picture2picture1

Two great little kids drew me pictures at Willows Lodge (see what your missing by not coming out) I mean “To the Musician” it doesn’t get any better than this.

In other news I am working hard on pre-production for a new CD.  I know I have said this before but this time its for real.  I have the money, just trying to get the songs fixed up and ready.

Jessica and I moved into a little house in Northgate.  I know I know we are not living in super cool Wallingford anymore.  It’s the way it goes.  We now have a 2 bedroom house, with a cool little backyard for the dog.

Because I have trouble writing a blog post without talking about some politics; I know you all like Obama, and I will agree, great speaker, winning personality.  But his policies and spending are taking us into socialism.  I would challenge anyone to prove otherwise.  In addition, his spending is mind boggling.  Finally for this post,I have a tough time with Obama essentially deposing the CEO of GM  and handing it over to a 31 year old almost graduate of Yale Law.  This to me says that he doesn’t care about GM, he cares about his ability to dismantle it at will.   Check out this  NY Times story here.  Does anyone else see the issue here?  This guy doesn’t know cars.  Now, I am not saying that GM shouldn’t be going bankrupt, they should.  They made choices and are where they are because of those choices.  No one is to big to fail.  No offense to GM employee’s or anyone else but where does the irresponsibilty end.  Where is the line where someone is to big or to small.  I run my own company.  We are a small outfit but I would hope that I am to big to fail.  Trouble is, I have to much pride to take a gov’t bailout.

All I am getting at is that I understand liking Obama for his personality, but I have real issues with his policies.  Please think when you listen to the news.  Remember the Constitution.  It is still as relevant today as it was at its inception.

More on the new CD soon.

Renton Here I Come…

Had a great meeting with Rick, owner and manager at Vino at the Landing in Renton yesterday. He’s a great guy who loves wine and is exited about having me perform in May.  So the real update is that I’ll be performing at Vino at the Landing on May 9th from 7-10pm.  This is a great spot that truly supports local wines.  They have a good selection of Washington wines, from some of the best smaller wineries.  ITs going to be a great time.  Come down and try the Worldly Red Flight, 3 great wines, a Tempranillo, Malbec and Shiraz.  They come in a cool tree like holder…
Its going to be a good time… Hope to see you there.

img_0150In other news, I will be performing every Friday night at Fireside Cellars at Willows Lodge through the entire summer.  Its a great place to hang out and grab a glass of wine.

Also there are a couple of new songs that you’ll be hearing at shows… The first is called Don’t Tread on Me.  It’s a term first used before the revolutionary war to fight back against taxation without representation.  My song is not about Obama or Bush or anything like that, more its about the failing of our government to limit its own growth, spending and wastefulness.  The second song on its way is a song I wrote a year ago but never liked all that much.  I have reworked it to be a better overall song.  Its called Simple Kind of Fix.  Just about life and how we all need some fire in our gut.

See you around…

Don’t Tread on Me - Tea Parties

Here is why I believe in the Tea Parties.

Dont Tread on Me

Don't Tread on Me

I had decided to go to the Everett Tea party at Marina Park because I felt it was less anti Obama and more “for” principles that believe are important to this country. The local morning news mentioned the parties but the national news (the Today Show) did not. That’s pretty amazing to me as it feels like if a smaller protest was happening for something that was more of a liberal bent, it would have been reported, but I am not trying to start a fight about whether Fox, CNN, ABC, or NBC are conservative or liberal.

The Tea parties to me are very simple in purpose. As Americans we have the right to assemble, and we have the right of free speech. So, if we decide we want to gather to protest the treatment of some animal or how we feel that we are being treated that is our business, and never something to be frighted or worried about. This country was founded by people who disagreed with not only their government but also each other. Any serious look at our founding fathers will find, Christians, Atheist, Federalists, Conservatives, Liberals, Poorer and Richer… And by discussing their differences and understanding that while each had a strong and potentially correct perspective, that they needed to listen, and determine together the best direction for this new country.

To me the Tea parties were not promoting the lowering of Taxes. Taxes being cut is a related issue, but not the primary issue for the Tea parties. The Tea parties happened because a group of Americans, who have the right to have any opinion they want, feel that the size of government, paired with spending levels higher than we have ever seen in the history of our country are not a good thing.  This is specifically what makes this country great.  We have rights and freedom’s that people in many countries only dream of.  I have the right to think anything I want.

While some reading this, if they get this far, will assume I am a Republican. That assumption would be false. To say that I think that the current administration is the problem would be is hardly fair.  Republicans and Democrats have together legislated and spent us into our current state.  There is no way in a blog post to list what I feel are grievances against our gov’t but examples would be an 80,000 page tax code, Congressmen/women who have been in office for more than 30 years… ear marks, an so many other things…

In Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, “…the Electors prudence will point out the propriety of having elections often; because as the Elected might by that means return and mix again with the general body of the Electors in a few months, their fidelity to the public will be secured by the prudent reflection of not making a rod for themselves.”

We have strayed far from basic common sense… It’s time to think for ourselves.  The Tea parties should scare those in office.  Not because we are physically dangerous, but because we will think for ourselves, make decisions for ourselves, and the balance of power will sway back towards the people.

This past week

So this week I did a couple of things… First Sunday afternoon Jess and I went down to the Seattle convention center to take in geekdom and the Seattle ComicCon. The reason we went was to see my good friend Kyle Stevens and his Comic book rock band Kirby Krackle . The songs are great, and the convention responded really well. We also saw several Star Wars characters…img_0131

We also went to the Zoo yesterday because I thought that I saw on the news that the new Penguin exhibit was open. As it turned out I was completely mistaken, the Penguin Exhibit doesn’t open till May… LAME…

This weekend is going to be cool, tonight at Fireside Cellars, and Sat/Sun at the inlaws.

See you around

Senoj Estate Winery review

Hey everyone, hope the beginning of Spring is getting you all down with all the rain and snow and… The band and I warmed our instruments up last night with some wine at Senoj Estate Winery. It was a great time, hanging out with Jeff, Jason, and Lindsey and playing for a couple hours. It was the first time for us playing “pets” by Janes Addiction, and except for one mistake on my part it was great.

I’d recommend the Senoj “Dyslexia” as well as the Syrah and Passport wines. They were great.

Also wanted to say thanks to the couple of people that we met, Carroll and Rebecca.

Recording Recording

So I can’t promise anything, but I wanted to let everyone know that we are cutting down the list of Producers and Studios that we are thinking about working with on the next TJ Sherrill record.  Its a hard choice… Making sure that the producer has a good idea of what you want from the sound, and how he will go about creating that.

Anyway, I wanted to provide that update, not that many of you are reading this yet but, all that to say that a new cd is on its way.

What you can expect, a 5-7 song cd, with the full band, with the best of the new songs…

On another note, We have been working hard with our new Bass player, Ben Bradford.  You may have heard Ben before as he is apart of the Side Project.  He has been learning songs and will soon be performing with us.

Hope to see you at a show soon.
